This past week was the week of the west winds! A big high pressure settled in over our area and produced strong west winds all week. On top of small daily tides we had a west wind which is one of the worst winds to fish in our area. West wind will dirty the water and can also cause us to  have huge tides drops. We battled the elements all week and did our best to put our clients on the fish of their choice. We had great success despite the conditions. One good day of redfishing and multiple days with 60 plus trout. Next week we have a full moon with a big tide range, I foresee some big trout being caught with lots of them making an appearance for the full moon spawn. Hopefully the full moon will bring in some better weather too!

What a week in hopedale, Louisiana!! We finally got a week of calms winds and no rain and were able to put a solid week of fishing in. With big tides and some decent salinity we managed to get on a fantastic trout bite this week. Almost 600 speckled trout came back to the dock this week on just one boat! Solid 2-3 lbs fish with a couple of 4 and 5 lbs trout caught and released. I’m predicting a late summer bite this year due to the high river and fresh water intrusion we had all summer. A big push of trout finally showed up and I have a feeling they will be sticking around for some time. Hopefully my prediction is right and this action stays hot! Post hurricane Barry report! The fishing has been unbelievable since hurricane Barry, it took a few days for the water to settle but once it did mayhem took place! The redfish bite has been out of control, limiting before 7:40 AM and catching close to 100 fish a day! Speckled trout on the other hand finally appeared in big numbers! The storm surge brought in some saltier water, but it’s still not completely rid of all the fresh water coming from the Mississippi River. The new dose of somewhat saltier water brought a whole new crop of fish along with a ton of bait!! And as fisherman know if you have plenty of bait the fish follow. Limits of trout came in all week this week and plenty of redfish too! We are booked for the rest of July but do have a few dates open for charter fishing and lodging for August. This hot bite should last a few more weeks, if you want to come down to south Louisiana and experience this crazy action give us a call!

Another challenging but successful week here in Hopedale, LA with The Big Outdoors Charters. We had a full schedule this week with 3 to 4 boats out everyday, everyone caught plenty of fish but had to work for them with the big south winds this past week. With the full moon in full swing big tides drained our marsh creating very low tides and high winds. This changed the pattern of our fish but once we figured the pattern out it was nonstop action the rest of the week. Some groups opted to target the redfish this week and some targeted trout. The trout fishing was the best bite we’ve seen yet this year, the spawning females showed up in big numbers during the full moon and made for some awesome trips. On the other hand the redfishing was a little slower than the norm but every group landed 30-50 redfish per trip. Hopefully this week we can get back to the easterly winds with normal tides and get some of our water back to make for better fishing.

Epic week here in hopedale with The Big Outdoors Charters! We finally had a week with incredible weather and the fished loved it!! Very     hot temperatures in the upper 90's all week but the fishing was fast and furious so we beat the heat everyday!! Some of the river water from the Mississippi River has started to be overtaken by the saltwater, which has allowed the brown shrimp to move into our outer bays and the trout have finally started to show up in big numbers. They trout are not easy to find being that they are moving so fast everyday with very little pattern to stay on a steady bite, but with our hard working and determined guides we are finding they pretty steady. 

In the flip side the redfishing has been incredible! We are still on track to have one of our best redfish seasons ever. They are not big by any means but the perfect 16-19" fish for grilling or frying! 

The fishing in general is getting better everyday, from a somewhat slow start to our standards, I see the next few months getting back to some serious fish catching!! The fishing still remains spectacular in Hopedale! The redfishing has still been steady day in and day out. Our guides have been catching limits of redfish everyday! Our trout fishing has taken a plummet, its day to day depending on the weather. This time of year the speckled trout move to the outer edges of the marsh and in the gulf. With very high river water and record amounts of rain we are covered with fresh water throughout our outer bays and parts of the gulf. This has made speckled trout fishing tough so far this year. The fish are moving very fast each day to escape the fresh water, making it very hard to stay on a consistent trout bite. Hopefully in the coming weeks we can get a big push of saltwater to help flush some of the river water to allow our trout to move back in. All in all it has been a great start to the summer fishing and should only get better with the months to come! Have you ever caught over 100 redfish in one day of fishing? Well, if you haven't right now is the time to be in Southeast Louisiana! The amount of fish that have moved into our marsh is astounding and I cant remember a spring that's been this good! Catches everyday are 100 plus fish, I had three clients in from south Florida this week for three days of fishing. They tallied over 250 redfish in three days!! Talk about soar arms and hands after all those fish! I'm not sure how long this bite will last but we are enjoying every bit of it while it lasts. We had a crazy week last week in Hopedale, Louisiana! ! The weather cooperated and we were able to run a few charter fishing trips down on the bayou! We had three great trips all limiting out on redfish, two of the trips south Louisiana showed us her great side! Both trips hit 100 plus redfish a day, insane action from the first cast to the last cast! Our spring time fishing has showed up a little early this year and the fish are feasting uncontrollably. This pattern should stay true from now until may if we don't get a huge weather change. If you you want to see what sportsmans paradise is all about I would highly recommend getting down as soon as you can! Short boat rides and more than enough fish to catch right now!! Fishing has been above average this month so far! We had a mild February with big southern winds which gave us a good migration of fish coming in from the gulf. The southern winds pushed a lot of water into our marsh the last two weeks and the fish followed. Water temperatures stayed in the 70 degree range and plenty of trout were brought back to our dock this week. The redfish have been steady all year with easy limits. I had a group in town today from Arkansas and the wind blew 30 mph out of the east, we still filled the box with an easy limit of reds. We have some dates available for March and April but our summer dates are few and far between. Give us a call to get on the books for a fishing trip of a lifetime!

The weather here in south Louisiana is about as crazy as our fishing!! The next two months both February and March can be some of the best fishing if the weather allows us to fish. With the cold water temperature our fish have to bunch together in massive schools to keep warm and find food to survive. This all leads up to massive fish catches in big numbers, When you find them!!  They will be in huge schools ready to gorge themselves when you do find the fish. 

Most of our fish are being caught on the nicer weather days. Sunny skies and water temperature in the mid to upper 50's we have been catching nice boxes of speckled trout. Anything less than that and zero trout. The redfish are being caught steady day in and day out as long as the water temps don't drop below 50 degrees. Like I said these next few months are very weather and temperature oriented so if you catch the right day it can be a great one!
